He had also gained an silver medal in the Olympic Games in 1964 in Innsbruck and at the time of the Olympic Games of Grenoble in 1968, he lit the Olympic flame. He was trained by Jacqueline Vaudecrane who trained much French skaters. Thereafter, he was a sports Minister of 1984 to 1986 and several times deputy. After a brilliant career of surgeon, he is currently the Mayor of Livry-Gargan which is a city of the Parisian suburbs. He support for a long time Brian Joubert, he was the Team Leader of the french team during the worlds championships 2007 of Tokyo at the time of the victory of Brian Joubert.

Alain Calmat est le second français à avoir gagné le titre de champion du monde après Alain Giletti en 1960 et il était le dernier champion du monde français dans la catégorie masculine avant Brian Joubert en 2007. Il avait aussi remporté une médaillé d’argent aux Jeux Olympiques en 1964 à Innsbruck et lors des jeux olympiques de Grenoble en 1968, il alluma la flamme olympique. Il était entraîné par Jacqueline Vaudecrane qui a conseillé beaucoup de patineurs français. Par la suite, il a été ministre des Sports du 23 juillet 1984 au 20 mars 1986 et plusieurs fois député. Après une brillante carrière de chirurgien, il est actuellement le Maire de Livry-Gargan qui est une ville de la banlieue parisienne. Il soutient depuis longtemps Brian Joubert, il était d’ailleurs le team leader de l’équipe de France pendant les championnats du monde 2007 de Tokyo lors de la victoire de Brian Joubert.
