That was one of the best perfomances of Jeux D’eau on youtube ive seen. Thank you for sending that enjoyable performance. (what grade or level is that song)?
Some melodies a little too obscured. A number of wrong notes, but quite forgivable in this piece. I felt there were a number of parts that were simply played too slowly, also too much rit. at the end of some phrases. Some parts there was a complete cut of sound at the end of a phrase when it should only have been a partial pedal change. Don’t complain about the gliss unless you can do it well yourself, I’ve almost killed myself(my finger rather) practicing that thing.
Pretty good performance. Some parts I do say break the feeling of “water,” though overall it works pretty well. Interesting finger you use at the end there. Think I’ll try it out.
i played this piece last year… it’s not easy, but it’s the kind of stuff i like. you played it pretty well. i played the ending section a little faster, but there are parts where you played faster than i, so good job.
This is ravel man….not debussy~
Maybe Richter was excellent in playing Debussy but i don’t think he could play Ravel well…
I prefer Argerich’s interpretation of Ravel piano work.
his rubato and coloring are astonishing. Richter had a vast repertoire, could play anything. It’s all in the perspective of the player. I love it just as much as argerich
maybe he plays “Jeux d’Eau” a bit too fast. To my mind, the best interpretation for Ravel’s works is Alexandre Tharaud’s one -a young and brilliant French pianist- I hope there’s a video of Tharaud playing Ravel on youtube.
He plays Jeux d’eau very well. Though, I have to agree on your opinions. He does play it too fast. I prefer Argerich’s interpretation as well. She’s great for Ravel, Liszt, and Prokofiev. Everybody who hasn’t seen or heard her play Ravel’s piano concerto in G has got to do so.
I think Richter is a great pianist, however, he’s got a bit of a show-off!
It’s not just that his general tempo is too fast.
His whole psyche is approaching this so mechanistically.Very little is allowed to breathe
and he doesn’t find a lot of the inherent
varied tone colors implied.Feels like he is
working with concrete blocks not human expression
No need to fight for those that simply lack true magic in their renditions of any pieces performed. It is like trying to go back in 1941 and stop the war from happening…face reality - pianists like Richter one arrive only once in a few hundred years, if even that. The whole music world would be a vacuum if not for these recordings. They will be studied in hundreds of years to come. An event of the 20th century, and 21st, and 22nd…unfortunately

6The end is a bit bumpy and a little too slow. Overall a good performance though. Good job learning it. This piece is hell to learn to play.

8And this pianist is not a showoff, as some ignorant people think. M. Argerich is widely known to showoff pieces and play things much too fast.
